Serveur de Test Plan.tn

J'ai voulu partager quelques mises à jour de notre application
plan .tn.

New Version !!!

After 3 days of work I just finished publishing the new version of plan.tn
In this initial version I tried to setup the website and in the same time the architecture for the map application.
I made up my mind this time IT'S ONLY javascript, HTML5 and CSS3. Although this is the first time I use AngularJs I was pretty comfortable with it. It's a complete javascript framework and it's just Amazing. Development, testing and deployment with AngularJs along with Yeoman is just Easy.
I started in the CSS part using Sass I'am not familiar with it yet. But life is easy with Twitter Bootstrap. AngularJs has already an integration with Bootstrap with angular-strap.
The mapping part is simply managed with Mapbox Js and Leaflet Js.
Javascript is communicating directly with the map server. No server application!
I am glad to come to this point in the project, for me everything started making sense now.

Plan.tn

Plan.tn is the project I am working on. The project aims to give customers and public users idea about our business and what we exactly do. The project is at it's begin so you won't find much of use of the application. But we will keep working on this project and enhance it, for the public use.
This project is based on Open data and Open Source software. The data we use on our application is based on OpenStreetMap data and the maps are served with Mapserver along with a postgres database.
I am happy to announce the start of the project and hope you enjoy playing with the map and the tools.
I will be also glad to answer your questions if you have any

GIS & Open Source

What is GIS ?

Geographic Information System (GIS) technology has been developing steadily since the 1960s. It's a technological tool for comprehending geography and making intelligent decisions. GIS gives any organisation the ability to go beyond standard data analysis with tools to integrate, view and analyse data using geography. This growing popularity of GIS application is largely a response to versatility of the technology. Here is some examples of GIS application :
- Land Management/Conservation
- Resource Management
- Emergency Services/Disaster Response
- Medical/Health
- Public Interest
- Transportation
- Commercial/Private Sector
- Municipal/Local government
Today GIS technology is widely accepted as both a modelling and decision support tool by local governments. Supporters believe that GIS technology can enhance analytical capabili-ties, produce information with “added value”, and generate the implications of a large number of alternatives quickly. Consequently, GIS technology is seen as helping to facilitate planning and to enhance the decision-making process. In Tunisia today we need to start the application of GIS technology.

What is Open Source ?

Open source software is software that can be freely used, changed, and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone. Open source software is made by many people, and distributed under licenses that comply with the Open Source Definition. This little introduction is picked from the The Open Source Initiative.
The Open Source model harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency to create high-quality, secure and easily integrated software at an accelerated pace and lower cost. Primary benefits of open source software are: Choice, Reliability, Security and Fast deployment.

GIS and Open Source

The development of open source GIS software has—in terms of software history—a long tradition with the appearance of a first system in 1978. Numerous systems are available which cover all sectors of geospatial data handling. Many Open Source solutions have been developed for GIS like desktop application (QGIS, GRASS GIS ...), web map servers (Geoserver, Mapnik, mapserver) and databases (MySQL, DB2, PostGIS).

Let's Start !

Hey everyone, this blog post is presentation for this blog and it's purpose. I started my experience with Open Source in my first job where I worked as ERP Developer for a leader Open Source Integrator based in Belgium. This experience of 2 years and a half gave me the opportunity to explore Open Source development. The flexibility and the available documentation made it possible for me to explore more and more Open Source projects. I continued my experience as a Software Engineer at Fidelity Investments where I participate in an agile project development. The Agile Methodology combined with Open Source projects was fascinating. Finally in my last job I met the Geographic Information Systems development based on ArcGIS products. Combining those experiences I felt able to create my own business based on Open Source, Agile Methodology and GIS.
This combination is perfect for me, using OpenStreetMap data and postgis as Open Source projects and other software I started creating my own business along side with the Integration of Open Source projects for companies.

The main goal of this blog is to introduce the company and it's services for the public, also give some Information about GIS and Open Source  for those who are Interested on those two.
I hope this blog along side with my facebook (https://www.facebook.com/tunisiaopengis) and google+ page (https://plus.google.com/b/111227293152709025841) can give me an Interface of exchange with Interested people in those domains.

I hope I can give help, Information and support for the public, students and companies desiring to invest or to work with those technologies.
